There are two patterns, one for the hat and one for the scarf and either can be made. The hat is knitted with the yarn held double to make it nice and chunky. Pom poms are optional.

Knitting: Poncho
This simple project is great for all ages and sizes. The poncho can be worn as an outer garment or as an alternative for a jumper. I have knitted it in two colours but it could equally well be knitted in a plain colour. A great factor is that there are no buttonholes as the buttons go through the spaces in the mock cable.
