Heather Boos

Thanks for visiting my design page on Ravelry. My name is Heather Boos and I’m a knitwear designer from … around the world.

My son says he is from Texas. He was born in San Antonio but grew up in Korea and loved Germany the most. Our family is located in Minot ND, Elkhorn MB, and Phoenix AZ. We are currently living in Fort Leavenworth Kansas. Where we are “from” depends on what information you’re looking for.

My husband left for a deployment in 2010 and when he got back in 2011 the knitting obsession had taken hold. I haven’t stopped since.

Moving around so much, I am not always able to find full-time employment so when I’m not working, I’m developing patterns.

When I spend my time and money investing in a knitted item, I want to be able to wear it even if I have gained or lost a few pounds. By focusing on accessories like shawls, scarves, wraps and hats, I have developed a series of pieces that will “always fit and flatter.”

A lot of my designs explore techniques that are (or were) new to me and exciting to learn. That is part of the joy of knitting. I am excited by the experimentation and accomplishment I feel when I have mastered a new technique or solved a puzzle.

I often scan flea markets or antique store looking for utilitarian items that serve many purposes. I invest in decorative pieces that have an ulterior motive. That’s why I value designs that can be worn more than one way.

I don’t mind that when my literary book club friends are discussing their latest historical fiction, I’m secretly hoping someone will agree to read a Stephen King book with me because I love his style. I name many of my patterns after his characters because often I’m listening to one of his audiobooks while I’m designing and working on the samples.

Just as I’m dying to share my love for Stephen King stories, (please read Dolores Claiborne if you haven’t - you will laugh and cry) I also like to share the art of knitting. It has brought so much joy to me that I hope that everyone can experience the thrill of a new stitch and the pride of craftmanship when wearing a beautiful knit piece that is obviously hand made.
