The Christy Gallagher Memorial Malaria Fund
Martin and Mary Gallagher, my brother and sister in law, lost their son Christopher (23) to malaria in 2006 while backpacking in Asia!
In memory of Christy, his parents, Martin and Mary Gallagher, established the ‘Christy Gallagher Memorial Malaria Fund’ with Children in Crossfire to help prevent the deadly disease from claiming the lives of some of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable children.
Donations made to the ‘Malaria Fund’ are used by Children in Crossfire in 3 regions of Tanzania to distribute mosquito nets to vulnerable families with children under the age of 5, as well as, funding community awareness workshops about the prevention and treatment of malaria .
Each year in Tanzania an estimated 60,000 people die of malaria, and of these approximately 80% are children under the age of 5 years.
They have raised over £40,000 in that time and continue to organise events to raise awareness of malaria.**
I am a designer and tutor living in County Dublin with my partner and two sons.
I have been designing hand knit patterns for a number of years and have just completed fashion design studies. Thrilled to say I got a distinction in all 8 modules!!!! I now offer knitting and hand sewing classes in Dublin and am working on a collection of hand sewn accessories in Donegal Tweed.
My design influences are many. I find nature, landscape, seascape, art, fashion history, folklore and myth all sources of inspiration.
I accept private commissions and am happy to travel to give classes and workshops :-) so please feel happy to contact me.
