Pauline Gallagher

I am a hand knitting designer and tutor living in County Dublin with my partner and two sons.

I have been designing hand knit patterns for a number of years for my own projects, mostly accessories- hats, scarves, mitts. I now find myself getting more and more interested in creating new designs and have just completed the first year of a two year fashion design course to hone my design and presentation skills. Thrilled to say I got a distinction in all 8 modules!!!!

My design influences are many. I find nature, landscape, seascape, art, fashion history, folklore and myth all sources of inspiration.

My background is in cosmetic science. I choose that because it is the closest to fashion design in terms of creativity, seasonal trends, colour and working with natural materials. I worked for a number of years formulating natural based skincare products and toiletries and also had my own business through which I developed and marketed fragrances and related products to the Irish giftware market in Ireland and USA.

The arrival of the current economic recession in Ireland gave me the chance to explore my love of crafts and knitting and how this might lead to a new career. I have been teaching knitting workshops and classes in Dublin since September 2010. I started up my business, The Knitting Class, in January 2011 through which I offer classes, workshops, private classes, knitting parties and promotional demonstrations.
