A toe-up sock pattern with short row heel.

These socks were inspired by the characters of Vastra and Jenny from Doctor Who. Jenny in dark navy gets smooth stripes and Vastra in moss green has textured stripes resembling lizard scales. I chose my colours to match the costumes that they wear in the episode A Good Man Goes to War. I also knit my socks as fraternal twins, reversing the colours. You may knit both socks the same, in different colour combinations, or as your imagination takes you.

This pattern was written in celebration of the 2014 season of Doctor Who, introducing the new Doctor played by Peter Capaldi. The first episode on Saturday 23rd August also saw the return of the Paternoster Gang.

The pattern is for a size medium (8.25” foot circumference). The foot length can be varied as required.

Any fingering weight sock yarn may be used. Two contrasting colours are required for the stripes, though these may be varied to suit (fraternal twins as in the pattern, or a matching pair).
