The best part about Assassin’s Creed, other than getting to swan dive off buildings in a way that brings a tear to Batman’s eye, is the bizarre amount of knowledge I have about Renaissance-era Italy. The game used real settings and people from that time to tell an awesome fictional story, which basically makes it edutainment for adults.

If you’ve never played any of the Assassin’s Creed games — I believe there are at least eight of them now — the series revolves around the rivalry between two ancient societies: the Knights Templar, the Assassins, and their relation to an ancient species that predates humans. In the first game, you play Desmond Miles, who is kidnapped by the Templars masquerading as a mega-corp. They force Desmond to use a device that allows him to experience his ancestors memories. They want the location of several artifacts that can control mankind and alter its fate.
