Baby sweaters don’t get simpler than this. If you can do the knit stitch you can make a sweater any size you want without having to follow conventional pattern instructions. The instructions include step-by-step illustrations for everything you need to know. It is also a good pattern for experienced knitters as it gives you the flexibility to be adventurous.

The pattern includes templates for chest sizes 12” to 20”. You can easily adapt for bigger sizes but you will need to draw a simple square of your own.

You can use any yarn, or combination of yarns, that you want though you can only use yarns of the same thickness in each individual square. It is ideal for using up any tiny oddments you night have. You can be adventurous with the arrangement of your colours and yarns.

The squares are sewn together. This is extremely easy in garter stitch as the edges don’t curl. It also has the advantage of creating totally flat seams, with no ridges, which is ideal for tiny babies.

If you don’t like sewing this is not the pattern for you.

You might think this is a bit of a departure from the usual Woolly Thoughts stuff but this is almost where we began, many years ago.

Most of the photos are nearly twenty years old which explains why they are not very good. The sweaters were knitted by some ‘grannies’ who had never previously heard of modular knitting.

If you are familiar with the Woolly Thoughts book you won’t need this pattern. The book does not contain any specific patterns but it gives all the information you need to make this sweater and many other modular garments.
