This is a soft, cuddly knit - I have worn mine all winter and love it!
This cowl is knitted flat and joined in the centre by a band of Indian Cross Stitch. The Indian Cross Stitch and Daisy Stitch bands add visual interest and make for a quick but interesting knit.
The pattern is written in multiples of 8 and the cowl can be shortened or lengthened by subtracting or adding stitches.
The photograph of the red and black version is of a short cowl only one layer thick, whereas the teal/green version is a longer version that can be worn looped around the neck. (Pattern instructions are for teal version.)

Requirements:
1 skein Manos Maxima (100g approx. 200m) or similar weight yarn
1 6mm (US 10) circular needle (80cm)
Tapestry needle

This is easy enough for an advanced beginner and an opportunity to learn some lovely textured stitches.
