On August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment was ratified to the U.S. Constitution, prohibiting the denial of any citizen the right to vote based on sex. This remarkable legislation was in part due to the leadership and lobbying efforts of Alice Paul (January 11, 1885 – July 9, 1977).

Ms. Paul continued to fight for equal rights domestically and internationally throughout her life. She tirelessly lobbied for the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), stating, “Men and women shall have equal rights throughout the United States and every place subject to its jurisdiction.” Unfortunately, the ERA was 3 states shy of passing, but Ms. Paul paved many roads for women and her legacy continues to live.

The hat is worked flat then seamed together with the shirred (ruched) panel, then the visor is attached. Instructions for several different accessories will allow you to personalize and change the the look of your hat.
