Firefly has long been a favourite of mine. I can’t even count how many times I’ve rewatched the series & movie. I’m super excited to have collaborated again with Julia of Pandia’s Jewels for this Firefly inspired sock pattern.

The inspiration for the design elements of this sock come from River’s vest that she wore in the episode Trash. Along the front of the sock is a openwork lace pattern split just before & after the heel by an arrow lace panel. Along the back of the leg is a firefly cable pattern. For the cuff, a row of eyelets & a length of I-cord is used to provide a decorative element similar to the tie on River’s vest. Combined with the colourway Julia dyed inspired by River’s outfit in this episode, we have a unique representation of River’s character.

These socks are knit using the magic loop method (although the purchaser could easily adapt it for two circulars or double points).

Judy’s Magic Cast On and Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off are used in this pattern.

The knitter needs to be comfortable with the following techniques: knit, purl, ktbl, yo, k2tog, k2togtbl, SSK, M1R, M1L, I-cord, W+T, & cables. Instructions for all these techniques are included in the pattern. In addition, a video tutorial for the shadow wrap technique of W+T for short rows has been recorded by the designer.

This pattern includes instructions in both written and chart forms for 56 stitch, 64 stitch, and 72 stitch socks.

I’d like to express my immense gratitude to the creators of Firefly for their entertaining work. This design would never have been possible without their inspiration.

Huge thanks to my amazing test knitters: Andrea (angeiship), Ann (roocmc), Cristy (cristyray), Shirley (ShirleyMirley), Susan (clucks), and Tracy (phoenixfire). ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
