Amar, meaning ‘love’, is a generously sized crescent shawl that makes the most of the interplay of two contrasting colors. The two exquisite yarns used in the original sample were dyed with some of the same shades specifically to complement each other, but any two of your favorite colors will work beautifully.

The shawl is worked from the top down starting with garter stitch short rows, which shape the shawl into a versatile crescent. For simplicity, the short row wraps are left in place, hidden within the garter texture. The deep border is worked in sections of slip stitch colorwork and lace. The seamless combination of easy slip stiches with simple geometric lace creates a project that will keep your interest from the beginning to the end.

The inspiration for the shawl’s name comes from its colorwork reminiscent of interlaced abstract hearts, which brings to mind the timeless lyrics by the Beatles:
…love is all you need.

Color MC: Ondine (green, 400 yards)
Color CC: Ornament (purple, 440 yards)
