Anitra is the daughter of a Bedouin chieftain who danced to entertain Peer Gynt. This pattern will entertain you as the color and texture of your yarn swirl and dance like Anitra along the length of the shawl.

The shawl was designed with beautiful variegated yarn and handspun yarns in mind; the simple stitch pattern allowing the yarn to shine. The relaxing knit is interesting enough to keep you from being bored, but easy enough for travel or TV watching while you knit.

The pattern is worked sideways from a small cast on using simple shaping to form the scalloped edge. Instructions are included for a crescent and triangular version. Skills required – basic increases and decreases, including kfb, and k2tog. Suitable for confident beginners or anyone who enjoys a mindless knit.

Using Alternate Yarn weights
The pattern can be worked in any weight yarn; gauge is completely flexible. Heavier yarn weights will give you a more substantial shawl, while lighter weights produce a more scarf-like piece. When choosing your needle size, choose a needle that gives the fabric plenty of drape. Using a different yarn weight will alter the amount of yarn necessary to complete the project.
