I’ve always liked playing with moebius strips made from newspaper and wanted to apply that to knitting somehow. This is the second iteration - cf. ‘A Very Silly Idea’.

You knit a tube with a twist in it, then separate along the middle (by knitting one round in waste yarn, so it isn’t really technically a steek but I’m not sure what else to call that) and you end up with two interlinking loops. I’ve done it in chunky yarn in garter stitch, and changed colour after the waste yarn so the two loops are different colours. But that’s not necessary, any yarn will do and any reversible stitch can be used.

To separate the two loops you pick up the stitches above and below the waste yarn before cutting it out, then casting off the live stitches. Yes, there is an easier way of making this shape, but where would be the fun in that?!

Sample was knitted with one ball of Cortina and one ball of Zebrino.
