Cowl: 180 yards/165 meters worsted-weight yarn. Shown in Swans Island Natural Colors Worsted (100% organic merino wool; 250 yards/229 meters per 3.5 ounce/100 gram skein), colorway Beet Root.
Hat: 134 160 yards/122 146 meters worsted-weight yarn. Shown in Quince & Co. Lark (100% American wool; 134 yards/123 meters per 1.75 ounce/50 gram skein), colorway Kumlien’s Gull.
Gauge – Cowl & hat: 18 stitches = 4”/10 cm in stockinette stitch, after blocking.
Needles – Cowl & hat: US #8/5 mm (or size to get gauge).
Cowl: For knitting in the round (either 16” circular, or two circulars, or one long circular for magic loop, or double points).
Hat: Same options as above, plus double points for crown if using 16” circular. Notions - Tapestry needle, stitch markers, cable needle.
Skill level - Intermediate (knitting in the round, inserting correct motif round).
Size/Finished measurements –
Cowl: One size fits most. Approximately 21”/53 cm circumference and 9’’/23 cm tall with edges rolled. Measured after blocking.
Hat: Medium Large to fit head circumference approximately 20”/51 cm 22”/56 cm. Finished circumference 18.5”/47 cm 20”/51 cm and height at center 8”/20 cm. Measured after blocking.
