I love knitting cables because the surface texture is beautiful and the knitting process is interesting. For this asymmetric triangle, I’ve combined cables with a touch of openwork so that the finished wrap is not only warm, but remains soft with a good drape. The cable pattern combined with eyelets has textural interest on both sides (CHART ONLY), making it an ideal stitch pattern for a shawl.

Generously sized and perfect for snuggling, Arise is worked in one piece, side-to-side, from a tiny six-stitch cast on, and it increases along one edge forming an elongated triangle. A simple yarn over edging is worked along the two longer sides; this can be used for finishing since the blocking wires can be easily threaded through the yarn overs.

finished measurements:
Wingspan: 78” / 198 cm
Depth: 41” / 104 cm

suggested yarn:
3 skeins Lakes Yarn & Fiber Meadow Targhee Worsted (273 yd / 249 m per 4 oz / 125 g skein; 80% Targhee Wool, 20% Silk) in Letter A
The sample required almost all of three skeins; you may wish to purchase additional yarn to ensure you have enough to complete the shawl.

needles:
Size US 10 / 6 mm circular needle, 32” / 80 cm long or longer
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

notions:
Cable needle, stitch markers, tapestry needle, blocking pins

gauge:
20 sts and 24 rows = 4” / 10 cm in cable pattern, unblocked

February 6, 2017 - error in the 12/12/16 pdf:
As charted, the border of the pattern repeat is off by two stitches. The repeat should be 18 sts wide, not just 16, and it should include the two purl stitches to the left of the border.
