Asteria Shawl is a simple, triangular shawl knit seamlessly in one piece, top down. It is named after Titan goddess of falling stars. The shawl starts at the centre and grows outwards to the border by adding four stitches on every RS row: one stitch on each side and two stitches at the centre. This shawl is knit in two different contrast colors. The first part of the shawl is worked in simple yet effective textured pattern that reminds me of stars (hence the name). The second part of the shawl is knit in contrast color, in a lovely, classic lace pattern. The bobbles between these two parts add extra texture to the shawl.

Asteria is a triangular and loosely adapted version of my other shawl pattern, Penelope.

Size: one size; measurements after blocking: approx. 183 cm/ 73“ wide, 89 cm/ 35“ long;

Gauge: 22 sts and 34 rows = 10 cm/ 4”; gauge is not crucial for this project but it will affect the size of your shawl and the yardage; make sure you have enough yarn to finish your project;

Yarn: Malabrigo Yarn Mechita 100% Merino Wool, 384 meters (420 yards)/ 100g (3.53 oz), 2 skeins for CC1 and 1 skein for CC2; sample shown was knit in Polar Morn (CC1) and Natural (CC2) colorways;
or approx. 540 meters/ 590 yards of fingering weight yarn for CC1 and 345 meters/ 377 yards of fingering weight yarn for CC2;

Needles: 4 mm/ US6 size circular needles 80 cm/ 32” long or needle size to obtain the gauge; I recommend using needles with sharp tips;

Other: 4 stitch markers, tapestry needle to weave in ends;

I would love to see your Asteria shawls; please tag you projects #yarnpoetryknits and #asteriashawl on social media. Thank you!
