12/23/2011: YARN NOTE: I just got some feedback from one knitter who had a bad experience washing Cascade 128, apparently it expanded quite a bit, something to keep in mind. I included other yarn suggestions below as well as in the pattern.

08/31/2011 PLEASE NOTE: This is an updated version of the “Baby Tiered Coat and Jacket” pattern. This version contains instructions for 5 sizes, including two new toddler sizes, 2/3T and 3/4T.)

How about knitting an adorable and warm little coat for the baby or toddler in your life? Or a cute little jacket? Or both! This pattern offers two variations in length and 5 sizes.

The pattern is knit top-down, with only minimal finishing. The sleeves are knit in the round. This is a very quick and easy knit!

Other yarn suggestions: Cascade Eco+ (used on Jacket shown on photo), Knitpicks Swish Bulky, or any other yarn with a light bulky or heavy worsted weight (14 to 15 st per 4 inches on US 10)

Approximate yardage:
0-3 month size: 256 yds for coat, 192 yds for jacket
3-6 month size: 384 yds for coat, 320 yds for jacket
12-18 month size: 512 yds for coat, 384 yds for jacket
2T-3T size: 512 yds for coat, 384 yds for jacket
3T-4T size: 640 yds for coat, 512 yds for jacket

Aside from the yarn, you will need:

• circular needles, size US10 (6mm), length should be at least 29”
• 1 set of size US10 (6mm) double-pointed needles
• 4 stitch markers
• 2 stitch holders or scrap yarn
• tapestry needle
• 3 (or 4 if knitting bigger sizes) 3/4” buttons
