Meet our Baby Penguin. He’s cute, cuddly and very lovable.

This Baby Penguin is suitable for advanced beginner knitters and assumes an understanding of basic stitches and standard knitting terms. Our Baby Penguin is knit flat and sewn together using a mattress stitch.

If you’re new to knitting stuffed friends, or are uncomfortable winging it without strict guidelines (that’s OK, we all need good directions sometimes to help us out) you will need approximately 35 m of medium weight grey yarn and 15 m of medium white weight yarn for the head, body and flippers. You’ll also need 12 m of orange/yellow yarn for the beak and feet. With this yarn, use 4 mm (US size 6) needles. You will also need a small amount of yarn for embroidering the eyes and stuffing (we use ecofil or wool). This will let you create a baby penguin that’s approximately 15 cm (6 inches) from head to toes.

The beauty of knitting stuffed friends is that this pattern can be knit in any size yarn with accompanying needles. Generally we find using a size or two smaller needles than required by the yarn allows for the tightness needed when you’re stuffing your finished product.
