With this supplemental pattern you’ll be able to customize our Classic Bunny or Classic Teddy Bear with a knitted heart in the body section. Always popular, this heart pattern allows your friend to show their love to anyone who’s looking. Both little girls and boys love this design, who can resist a new friend with their heart on their tummy?

This pattern is a supplement to both our Classic Bunny and Classic Teddy Bear patterns. You must buy the Classic Bunny or Classic Teddy Bear pattern as well, as this pattern is just a variation given for the body section of these patterns.

For this supplemental pattern, you will need 2 different yarns. Yarn “A” is the yarn you are using for most of the bunny or bear. Yarn “B” is the yarn you are using for the heart section. Make sure that yarn “B” is different enough in colour that the heart pattern stands out.

If you’re new to knitting stuffed friends, or are uncomfortable winging it without strict guidelines (that’s OK, we all need good directions sometimes to help us out) you will need approximately 85 m of medium weight yarn in colour A and at least 5 m of medium weight yarn in colour B (more if doing the alternate coloured paws). With this yarn, use 4 mm (US size 6) needles. You will also need a small amount of yarn for embroidering the face, stuffing (we use ecofil or wool) and a tapestry needle to sew your bunny or bear together. This will let you create a friend that’s approximately 19 cm (7.5 inches) in length.

The beauty of knitting stuffed friends is that this pattern can be knit in any size yarn with accompanying needles. Generally we find using a size or two smaller needles than required by the yarn allows for the tightness needed when you’re stuffing your finished product.
