Baby, it’s cold outside! All babies need to have their heads warm in the winter time, but let’s have a bit of fun and style!

When your hat is complete, it should fit a baby’s head that is about either 0-3 months, 3-6 months, or 6-12 months in size. Personally, I love finding a pattern that has three sizes for babies. You never know what size would be perfect for a little one. When my little dude was born, his head was so big that the handmade newborn size hats we were given were too small.

This is a great hat for those who are beginner/intermediate in their crochet skills. You can add a stripe in the hat if you so choose for style purposes. If you have pattern questions, I am happy to help!

Material List:

  • 1-2 colors of medium worsted weight yarn; Color 1 used for the main portion of the hat and Color 2 for the stripe.
  • 5mm (H-8) crochet hook
  • Scissors

Difficulty Level: Beginner - Intermediate

Crochet abbreviations:
This pattern is written in US crochet terms
ch – chain
st – stitch
sl st- Slip stitch
sk- skip stitch
SC – Single Crochet
DC – Double Crochet

Important Notes:
I like to start all my hats with a magic ring. The magic ring can take some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it really is a great way to start crocheting in rounds. Click on the link for instructions on how to make a magic ring. The website gives you pictures and a video tutorial.

• Always start your rounds in the same stitch as your chain.
• Always join your rounds to the first DC, NOT the chain. This will also help hide the seam.
• Your last stitch should be in the stitch before your chain.
• Do NOT count the chain 2 as a stitch.
