When watching the Winter Olympics, I was inspired by Team USA’s attire in the opening ceremony. I was moved by the stars and stripes on their hats. This is a great pattern to make not only for those babies born in the summer time, but for those who want to root for Team USA at the next Olympics, World Cup soccer, or any other patriotic events!

When your hat is complete, it should fit a baby’s head that is about 14-15 inches in circumference. I love this size in hats because the baby can grow into the hat, or you might have a baby that was born with a large head. My little dude was born with a large head, and most of the handmade baby hats that we were given were too small.

This is a great hat for those who are beginner/intermediate in their crochet skills. There is a little bit of simple cross-stitching to create the stars on the brim as well. If you have pattern questions, I am happy to help!

Important Notes:
I like to start all my hats with a magic ring. The magic ring can take some getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, it really is a great way to start crocheting in rounds. Click on the link for instructions on how to make a magic ring. The website gives you pictures and a video tutorial.

• Always start your rounds in the same stitch as your chain.
• Always join your rounds to the first DC, NOT the chain. This will also help hide the seam.
• Your last stitch should be in the stitch before your chain.
• Do NOT count the chain 2 as a stitch.
