This basic sock pattern has been used by my mother and grandmothers from both sides of the family. It has always worked out for everybody. We do however measure a bit while knitting and don’t take the sizing 100% serious, though it comes very very close. But as everybody’s feet are different, measuring while knitting is always a good idea.

When using a self striping yarn, make sure you start for each sock at the same stripe. I make sure both balls are exactly at the same spot and cut one if need be, before I start knitting, that way they match perfectly.
