Colorful superheroes like Batman & Robin were born in the United States in the late 1930s as a response to the misery of the Depression. Now we face difficult times on a global scale again. Our whole society is at a turning point. Old virtues like protecting those who are vulnerable and crafts like sewing masks, growing vegetables in our gardens and alotments, staying at home and playing musical instruments are now becoming the pillars of our social life. Especially in countries experiencing lockdown. Thanks to the internet we can still stay connected and united. Knitting has always been a source of comfort. The Batman & Robin shawl was created with this mind.

If you fancy knitting your superhero shawl, you will need two contrasting yarns. You can use all kinds of yarn weights from lace to dk. You will need at least 200 yards for yarn A and 750 yards for yarn B. You can, of course use much more since you can choose between two sizes: medium and large.

The shawls featured in the pictures were knitted with the following combinations:
Large Version: Bilum Loli; 2 skeins of 600m/120g - Wollmeise Pure; half a skein
Medium Version: Wollbonbon Merino 4 ply. 750m - Wollmeise Pure; 60g
Large Version: Schoppel XL Wunderklekse 3 balls - Schoppel Wool Finest 60g

Batman & Robin is a modular knit, but you will add the modules as you go. There is no seaming involved. Because the instructions are given in written AND in charted form I have created thre shorter pdfs rather than one very large one. One with the written instructions only (medium and large versions) and two with just charts. All versions contain complete guidelines and graphics. They are enriched with ample photo tutorials on the techniques of shaping and joining the modules. This makes Batman & Robin a doable project for most knitters.

If you would like to knit Batman & Robin at some point in the future, don’t hesitate to get your pattern now as this weekend (9th and 10th of May EST) it is on sale for 25% off the original price of $5.99 - no action code required. So grab it while you can!!!

Happy Knitting!
