Shimmy has 4 components and can be worn and displayed in several configurations (instructions p25). Bead crochet uses a bead or multiple beads in each stitch or chain as directed. It’s the beads and loops of beads that get all the attention, but the construction is crochet.

Per 7beads.com:

Shimmy Shan is a collector doll unlike any you have ever seen. If you know how to crochet, you can make the Shimmy Shan Doll. Your friends will be amazed when you take her off the shelf and turn her into a necklace and bracelet! Her legs, her arms, her jump rope and even her head can all be worn in different combinations for a different look every time you wear her. If you can’t crochet or need a refresher, the kit includes a fully illustrated refresher course with all the crochet stitches you’ll need.

In the Options section of the Instruction Booklet you will find ways to make Shimmy a mermaid or other fantasy figure. You can add hair made of beads or fiber, add eyes and lips or even create an entire friend for Shimmy made entirely of fiber.
