This Simple Sophisticationspattern was designed specifically for the beginner that is ready to progress from scarves and dishcloths. The pattern includes directions for boot cuffs, a hat, and mittens with the option to make fingerless mitts. Each piece of the set builds on the skills learned from the previous piece. The set teaches

  • knitting in the round (boot cuffs)
  • decreases (hat)
  • increases (mittens/mitts)
  • turning ridge (boot cuffs)

The boot cuffs take slightly over 1 ball of Brown Sheep Lanaloft; the hat takes slightly less than 1 ball, and the mittens take slightly more than 1 ball. Mittens are knitted in a tighter gauge for added warmth.

Simple Sophistications is a division of Katmandu Kreations, targeting beginner level knitters who want to advance their skills, but need some hand-holding. In addition to offering beginner level designs, Simple Sophistications provides very detailed instructions with references to Vogue Knitting, and explanations, addressing the reasons for doing “this” instead of “that”.
