I’ve designed the perfect shawl for me – and I hope you’ll enjoy it too. Working in an office, I almost always have a shawl around my shoulders, but I was looking for something that would be still without shifting and falling all the time. This shawl not only is the shape I wanted – it’s knit in the round! The only purling needed is in the ribbed edging. AND no ends to weave in! How does it get better than that?

While working on this pattern I created two versions, simply by changing the cast-on number. The shorter wider shawl is perfect for office work, meditation, yoga, etc. The longer shawl can wrap around your shoulders but the best part about it is its functionality in the colder months. Position the square part on your chest and wrap the scarf around your neck. Voila! You’ve got a scarf with an integrated dickie to keep your collar bone and chest nice and warm under the opening of your coat.

This shawl, although knit in fingering-weight yarn, is very customizable. Use handspun, use other weights – just swatch up your yarn, measure your swatch, and quick math will give you the number of stitches to cast on for the length you want. Because you are knitting from the inside out in a circular way, the width and depth of the back portion are determined by the width of the side portion. You can even leave it as a cowl if you prefer - just be sure to knit the ribbing along the entire edges.

In this pattern I am including 2 versions, a shorter wider one and a longer narrower one.
