Njál’s Saga is one of the great Icelandic sagas, written in the 13th century. It’s a story of love and betrayal, honor and revenge.

Arguably the most famous scene in the saga is when Njál’s home at Bergþórshvoll is burned, and Njál, his wife Bergþóra and several other men perish. The shawl depicts the flames during the burning. It shows the small flames near the bottom, and large flames on the top.

La Saga de Njáll le Brûlé est l’une des plus belles des Saga islandaises, écrites au 13ème siècle. Saga veut dire histoire en islandais, et Brennu-Njáll saga est une histoire d’amour et de trahison, d’honneur et de revanche. Possiblement la scène la plus connue est lorsque la maison de Njáll à Bergþórshvoll est brûlée, et Njáll, sa femme Bergþóra et de nombreuses autres hommes périssent dans les flammes. Le châle représente le feu : il montre les petites flammes courtes en bas et les longues langues de feu en haut. La couleur blanche symbolise Njáll lui-même, un homme sage et respecté au teint blafard.
