Briana Shawl
2017 Sunshine Charlotte Designs Shawl CAL

While summer is now starting to heat up, hospitals remain chilly. With its sections of mesh alternated with dc eyelets, this shawl suits the warmer weather, and it would be perfect to have on the deck or porch during a cool, early-summer evening. However, it’s large and warm enough to provide comfort to women in hospitals, so this pattern works well as a prayer shawl too!

The Briana Shawl is an Easy level pattern, as it uses only dc, sc, and ch. It alternates sections of mesh stitching for light drape with bands of dc for stability and shape. After the first few rows, you’ll follow an easy seven-row repeat, and the pattern gives written and photo instructions on creating a gradient look with your colors! Whether you’re working up this crochet pattern for yourself, a friend, or someone who needs some comfort, the Briana Shawl is a fast, easy pattern for light summer crochet.

The Briana Shawl is the June installment of the 2017 Sunshine Charlotte Designs Crochet ALong, which features a different shawl pattern each month. This year’s CAL projects are meant to be donated to a local children’s hospital - specifically a cancer ward - so they can be handed out to mothers who suffer the pain of watching their child be ill. I design and donate these shawls in memory of my daughter Charlotte, who died of brain cancer in July 2015.
