A simple, classy yet manly hat, designed primarily to be warm in hopes that my brother (not a hat person) will wear it at least for snowblowing his drive if nothing else. I highly reccomend using the suggested yarn (unless you have another favourite) just because it’s so nice to knit with. Uses about half a ball of yarn.

Super simple hat pattern:

Starting:
Cast on 44 sts
7rows of 2x2 ribbing

Body:
Start seed stitch next row (k1p1)
Continue in seed stitch until hat measures 6.5 or 7 inches from the ribbed brim.

Begin decrease:
Dec row A: k1p1k2tog, p1k1p2tog (won’t end on a decrease, so just go to the end of the row with whatever stich you’re on) repeat to end.
Every second row: seed stitch (start wih whatever the opposite of the first stitch in the row is)
Dec row B: k1p1k2tog p2tog, repeat to end.
Dec row C: k2tog, p2tog. Repeat to end.

Finishing:
Cut off yarn leaving long tail (no less than 12 inches, more if you want). Sew up remaining stitches and mattress stitch down the back seam of the hat, careful to match up the bottom edges. Tie off and weave in ends.
