This is a pattern for a very “long wingspan” crescent shaped shawl that is comprised of two different lace stitches. The focal stitch of the shawl is a “true” lace that comes to us from Russia. The ornate lace edging stitch is added in the traditional Shetland manner, and gives a beautiful and graceful bottom to the shawl.

The shawl measures 74 inches at the widest points across the top and is 26 inches deep at the deepest point. It is made with a heavier of the fingering weight yarns, and is knit on size 7 (U.S.) needles. The shawl requires approximately 1000 yards of yarn (just 3 skeins of Paulie yarn) making it both a perfect lace shawl project, as well as the perfect gift.

The stitches are both charted and written out line by line.

Skill Level: Intermediate - Intermediate + (assuming a good working knowledge of lace knitting).

The shawl was expertly test knitted by Barbara Robertson, who can be contacted at: Barb. Robertson@ gmail.com. The yarn used in the sample is Shalimar’s Paulie yarn, in colorway, Cayenne.
