Pattern Updated in February of 2015.

It now includes a photo-tutorial for knitting cables without a cable needle.**

Bryher is worked holding one strand of worsted weight wool with one strand of decorative mohair--the blue one in these pictures is knit with the Idena plus the Patons. The green one uses the Portrait plus the Patons. The brown one is knit with recycled alpaca from a thrift store sweater.

This scarf is named for the novelist Bryher. Who is Bryher?

Bryher was the pen name for Annie Winifred Ellerman, British novelist born in 1894. She was the life-long companion of the poet H.D. She was also very rich, and used her wealth to help Jews escape Germany in the 1930s.

A tough world traveler, she would have needed a compact, warm, yet stylish scarf like this one.

This project is a perfect stash-buster. A great pattern for recycled yarn from a thrift store sweater, too.

A fast knit, it makes a great gift.
