I wanted a cable to run around the top of this cowl, but I didn’t want to do any grafting. My solution is decorative buttons! First you knit the 19 stitch cable and then you pick up to knit in the round while allowing the cable band to overlap by a few stitches. A simple texture worked in the round provides height for this big, smooshy cowl that will keep you super toasty.

Then you put on your beautiful buttons and they tack down the flap of the cable band. It looks like you did a bunch of fancy work - but you didn’t. And I really love buttons.

The amazingly soft and squooshy Burly yarn from Anzula was the inspiration for this cowl and it comes in so many amazing colors that you can definitely make one to match any outfit you desire. The bulky weight of the yarn means that you can knit it up super fast and have yourself warm in no-time.

The pattern uses 2/2 and 3/3 cable crosses, knit, purl, and pick up & knit to work in the round.

If you would like to get an in-motion look at the cowl you can see a video tour of the pattern on my YouTube Channel Watch Barbara Knit.
