I started this hat as an exercise in blending (or rather not blending) colors in a roving I had on my spinning wheel. I ended up with just over two ounces that I wanted to be able to do something useful with. At the same time, I had been wanting to try my hand at adding beads to my knitting so with a little experimentation and a couple of trips to the Barbara Walker books I came up with this.
While I was sitting in a local café finishing the top of the hat a man leaned over and told me, “That’s very pretty, just like a cake.”
