This fun hat reminds me of the colorful candies that fill the jars at old-fashioned candy stores. Work it in many colors or choose just two. Each stripe takes only a few yards from your scrap yarn bag and is knit right in as you work - a fun technique!

This design is worked in the round from the brim up. It is suitable for knitters who are comfortable working in the round on circular and double point needles and can work basic increases and decreases. The technique to work the stripes is explained thoroughly in the directions. The pattern is 3 pages long and has been test knit and professionally tech edited to be clear and free of errors.

Sizes: S (M, L) to fit child (adult medium, adult large). Shown in size M.

Finished Measurements:
Circumference at brim: 18 (20, 22) in/47.75 (50.75, 56) cm.
Designed with approximately 2 in/ 5 cm negative ease.
Height: 7 1/2 (8, 8 1/2) in/ 19 (20.25, 21.5) cm. This makes a short fitted cap but can easily be modified to add length before starting top decreases.

Gauge:
16 sts and 20 rnd/ 4in/ 10cm over corrugated ribbing worked in the round. 18 sts and 24 rnds/ 4 in/ 10cm over stockinette worked in the rnd. Note: The ribbing gauge determines fit.

What You Need:

• 1 1/2 (2, 2 1/4) oz/ 43 (58, 65) g, approx. 72 (95, 107) yds/ 65 (86, 97) m of aran weight or heavy worsted weight yarn in MC.

• 3/4 (1, 1 1/4) oz/ 22 (29, 36) g, approx. 36 (48, 60) yds/ 33 (44, 54) m total in 1 to 8 different CCs of aran weight or heavy worsted weight yarn. Samples shown used Brown Sheep’s Lamb’s Pride Worsted.

• One 16 in/40cm circular needle and one set of 4 dpns in size required to obtain gauge. I used US #7/ 4.5 mm. You may need a size or two above or below that.

• One locking type stitch marker or safety pin

• Tapestry needle to sew in ends
