I call this a Candy Whale because it reminds me of some of the multi-colored hard candy you can sometimes buy! This pattern also matches my other ocean creature patterns you can find in my Ravelry store!

Made with size 5 Perle cotton held double this whale has a unique construction. The top is worked flat with some clever shaping and the bottom is attached (without seams!) and worked in the round. The only sewing is closing the base and adding the eyes. That’s it! Nobody likes sewing together bunches of tiny amigurumi parts anyway.

You could also make this whale with other weights of yarn, but it would come out much larger and the estimated yardage would increase. If you do it with the Perle cotton, friendship bracelet packs from your local craft store work perfectly for making multiples in a variety of colors!
