Chilly days require warm and adorable feet. Stranded colourwork makes for a nice warm sock. Pattern is designed to make use of odds and ends of other fingering weight projects. Makes a delightful “monster sock” or “scrappy sock”.

A fair amount of stranded colourwork, broken up by areas of straight knitting in one colour. Two lines of the chart requires knitting 3 colours in one round. Skills needed will include casting on, working in the round, knitting with more than one colour, carrying floats, following a chart, working a heel flap, picking up and decreasing stitches, kitchener stitch or 3 needle bind off.

Pattern requires 4 different sock weight yarns. Best choices are solid colours to mostly solid colours. Busy variegated yarns will lose the pattern of the colourwork. You will need about 30 to 50 gr of main colour, and about 20 to 30 gr of 3 other yarns that work together. Have fun with you colour choices! You don’t have to stick to only these 4 colours. You can swap in new colours on each chart repeat.

Needles required are US size 1 or 2 (2.25 to 2.75 mm) depending on how tight of a knitter you are. Gauge is approximately 9 stitches and 10 rows = 2.5 cm (i.e. 1 inch). If you are concerned about the stretch of the sock while working colourwork, please go up a size. This is a cuff down pattern.

The sizes available are US Ladies size 6-7 or (8-10). If you go up 8 stitches (i.e. 1 more stitch repeat), you can work this as a men’s size 9 to 12 If you don’t mind tinkering with your own heel.
