Some people have been requesting this pattern now that the yarn is unavailable at String. So I’m just making it available for download here. Now that the yarn is unavailable, substitute with any worsted or heavy worsted yarn held double (to give the fabric an extra structured look).

Originally released exclusively to String Yarns:

Our frigid winter weather has motivated our talented staff at String to use their creativity to help us keep warm. One of our very favorites is this week’s special – Vanessa Vine’s ever-so-chic Helmet Hat. Its clever shape turns a relatively simple hat into a major fashion statement.

The Helmet Hat is made with four skeins of Rowan Cashmere Tweed (90% cashmere, 10% silk), using two strands at once, and is knit tightly to give the hat a structured look and feel. It is knit in the round with surprisingly simple shaping, given its professionally finished look.

Happy Knitting!
