If you wonder about the name I chose for this cardigan, I chose it as a memory of an amazing trip to Sicily many, many years back.
Aircondition didn’t excist back then, and it seemed impossible to cool down anywhere. Then we arrived by bus at Castelvetrano, where the sharp lines between sun and shade were almost like cut out by a knife. We found shelter in the lovely shade of a monument, and I can never forget the relief of the shade and the spectacular cut up lines on the square between sun and shade.
I found that the lace of my cardi resembles a bit, hence the name.

Design and construction
The beautiful lace, resembling trails of leaves follows the sides of the fronts and back of the body, as well as the centre of the sleeves. The vertical lines of the leaves are both beautiful to watch and also give the classic cardigan a flattering look.
The lower body is worked bottom-up to underarms, where work is divided and the fronts and back are worked in separate pieces.
The sleeves are worked top-down. The sleeve-caps are shaped by working short-rows back and forth and the main-sleeve is worked in the round. All decreases on the sleeves are worked towards the lace, which gives an almost invisible impact and avoid ugly marks under the sleeves.
The neck-line and button-bands are worked from picked-up and knit sts.
The cardigan is worked seamlessly.
The pattern is tested and proof-read.

Sizes
Finished chest circumference, when buttoned (worked at gauge): 82/88/96/102/108/115/122/128/135/142/148 cm = 32.5/34.5/37.5/40/42.5/45/48/50.5/53/56/58.5”. The sample is worked in size 1, with approximately 2.5 cm/1” of positive ease. I do recommend 0 – 5 cm/0 – 2” of ease.

Materials
Yarn: I used ”Le Petit Lambswool”, in the colour dark green grey/vert gris foncé, from Biches & Bûche.
This fingering weight yarn comes in balls of 50 gr/1.76 oz and 248 m/270 yards. Of this specific yarn you will need approximately: 950/1025/1100/1175/1250/1325/1400/1475/1550/1650/1750/1875/2000 m = 1035/1120/1200/1280/1365/1525/1620/1690/1800/
1910/2045/2180 yards. Needles: Size 3 mm/US2.5 (or size to obtain gauge) Notions: 5 removable stitch-markers, buttons 18 mm/0.75” across, waste-yarn (for the underarm sts), separate holders, blunt tapestry needle, blocking tools, row-counter.

Gauge
24 sts and 36 - 38 rounds/rows = 10 cm/4”.
