Center of Attention hat and scarf set
I created this pattern to have a colorful central cable running up the center of an otherwise white scarf. It uses a reversible cable design, so that it looks good from both sides. The color changes in the scarf are done in the intarsia way, by twisting the two colors around each other. You will have three balls of yarn going at once (two of the main color, one of the central contrast color), which is exciting!
For the matching hat, you only use one color at a time -- knitting the cable band first, then picking up stitches to knit the rest of the hat (and the edging) in the round.
Yarn needed:
2 balls of main color (shown here in white)
1 ball of contrast color (shown here in mystic purple)
Note 1: A 5 foot scarf + a 20” hat requires EXACTLY 2 balls of the main color and 1 ball of the contrast color. If you want longer/larger sizes, make sure to get more yarn!
Note 2: I am a loose knitter. You may want to use a larger needle to get the gauge. Gauge is less important for the scarf than for the hat.
