This cowl was my first try at twisted stitches and is inspired by a pattern found in the book “250 Creative Knitting Stitches - Volume 4 (The Harmony Guides)”.

Only one of the pattern rows asks for twists while the rest is done with knit and purl stitches - an ideal beginner’s project. I didn’t note down gauge because the cowl was supposed to fit around my neck and head loosely and was knitted in the round. I wanted to be able to wear it as a hood in bad weather while keeping a warm neck so I knitted till it measured about 15.7 inches (40cm). The result took a little more than one skein of yarn.

I’ve adapted the pattern from a flat knit one and although I like the end result, I’d like to point out that you’ll find a garter stitch column of 3 stitches between the chalice repeats. However, the column at the end/beginning of rows consists of 6 stitches and makes the cowl asymmetrical. I don’t mind it but if you’d like the row transitions to be symmetrical you may want to think about amending it. Can’t get my head around it properly but I guess casting on 119 stitches instead of 122 and omitting the last 3 stitches per row should do the trick (UNTESTED suggestion).
