Chaltén, known by Patagonians of Argentina as the Blue Smoking Mountain, the paradigm of Patagonia & Andes Range. This is my knitted interpretation of Chaltén in a colorwork beret, with the colorwork band of indigenous motifs of pampa guarda of the Argentine Patagonian region.

Chaltén beret features a unique 2” wide shaped colorwork faced band, contructed of two mirror-shaped stockinette layers, hiding colorwork floats inside band. Crown has concentric decrease shaping and second colorwork motif just above the rim. Finished with Andean folk style tassels known colloquially by Patagonians as chuflines.

Updated Dec 26, 2022: Added chart options, more sizes, and changed band to straight (not as original which was
shaped).

I invite Any & All who are knitting this pattern, to bring questions, comments, and otherwise general Chaltén-related chattiness to a thread which exists on my Jenjoyce Design group just for knitters of Jenjoyce’s designs. The kettle is on… see you there ! :)
