Check-patterned suit from Stitchcraft, November 1961 -- “Separates With the Boutique Look.” The jacket has set-in pockets and wool-braid edges and the skirt has a zip closure, elastic waistband and back slit.

Three sizes, from 34-39 inch bust and 36-42 inch hips. Uses 17/19/21 ounces Patons Totem Double Knitting and 17/19/21 ounces Patons Rimple Double Knitting. Length from top of shoulders: 21.5/22/22.5 inches. 3/4 sleeves are 14.5/15/15 inches long. Skirt length: 27 inches.

Gauge: 6 sts and 8.5 rows to an inch in the diagonal slip-stitch pattern. The pattern produces a firm, non-drapy fabric.

Materials: UK 9 and 10 needles (3.75 and 3.25 mm), UK 12 crochet hook (2.75 mm) 5 buttons, 3/ yard 1 1/2 inch elastic for skirt waist, 8 inch zip and 2 hooks and eyes for skirt closure, press snap for jacket neck, 2-5 yards black wool braid for binding edges and 1/4 yard black bias binding for skirt slit.
