This pattern was inspired by Swedish twined knitting, a tradition that dates back to the 1600s. The textural elements such as the braids and the twined checkers are a lot of fun to work, but do not comprise a “quick” knit for most. Twined knitting in Swedish is called “Tvåändsstickning,” and has other names such as two-strand knitting and two-end knitting. The finished work is very stretch and and light while retaining the warmth of two-strands. However, the knitter must learn to deliberately cross or twine/twist the two yarns at every stitch.
