This scarf instructions are found in a combination hat and scarf pattern. The hat uses both US 7 (4.5mm) and US 8 (5.0mm)needles, although the scarf uses only the US 8 as well as a crochet hook for the button loops. The pattern gauge is written for the combined pattern.
