Have you ever gotten your hands on a really gorgeous skein of super long transitional color self-striping yarn and you just weren’t quite sure what to do with it? Nah, I didn’t think so!

We get these magical skeins of yarn and we’re just bursting with ideas and possibilities! At least to start with. Sometimes, though, you start working with this stunner of a yarn and you realize that all those incredible colors? Well, they’re actually competing with the design!

Or maybe you’re just losing the design (and so the work) to the color taking over. That’s when you need to find yourself a simple design.

Easy stitches. Not too much texture. Nothing fancy. You don’t want the yarn to fight with the design! Because most of the time? The color will win.

This mitered scarf is an excellent palette to explore some of those trickier, sometimes LOUDER skeins of yarn! The narrow strip that you begin with lets you showcase the WHOOOOOLE first skein of yarn (or nearly so) and then you add on mitered rows to finish out your width while only adding on 6-10 inches of additional length.

It’s a playground for those uber colorful skeins! And you’ll be finished with it before you know it.

Oh, you’ll also find a link to a video tutorial in the pattern to walk you through all the stitches if you need it!

Psst, there’s a new little sister pattern - go check out the Chroma Story Cowl for a one skein project!

STITCHES & TECHNIQUES:

  • Single crochet
  • Double crochet
  • Foundation single crochet (optional)
  • Chainless double crochet (optional)
  • Mitered rows (detailed instructions given in pattern)

GAUGE:

Rows 1–12 should measure about 3.25” (8 cm) wide by 4” (10 cm) tall, unblocked. Gauge is not critical for this project, but I did design it to maximize the yardage (and striping) in two skeins of yarn, so be mindful of that when making yarn substitutions!

Finished measurements after blocking = 6” (15 cm) wide by 76” (193 cm) long.

SUGGESTED MATERIALS:

  • Uneek Worsted by Urth in colorway 4024 (100 g, 220 yds (200 m)), worsted weight (4: medium) yarn, 100% extrafine superwash merino, 2 skeins
  • H/8 (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • stitch marker(s)
  • scissors
  • darning needle
