6/1/17 A note about the stitch numbers on the edging charts: the edging is worked over 9 stitches initially, but because of the yarnovers in the lace pattern, the number of stitches changes from row to row, increasing to 11 stitches on rows 5 & 6 and decreasing back to 9 stitches by row 12. The stitch numbers along the bottom of the edging charts correspond to the original 9 stitches that should be present on your row 1 (you’ll notice there is a blank square between stitch 1 and 2 on the right edging chart and between stitches 8 and 9 on the left edging chart to account for the yarnover that changes the stitch count to 10 stitches for Row 2). After row 1, the stitch numbers along the bottom of the chart will no longer line up correctly, since you’ve added new stitches and will decrease later. Once you pass row 1 of the chart, simply count the boxes from right to left on RS rows and left to right on WS rows, remembering that the black squares in the chart indicate that there is no stitch corresponding with that box.

Further clarification for the Chart key:
blank square = knit on RS, purl on WS
dot = purl on RS, knit on WS
