This hat is done in a very soft handle yarn so that it is soft and saggy - then the ribs will be wider or narrower depending how you wear it on your head.
This is an 8 ply Bendigo Woollen Mills Alpaca. Normally you would knit this on 4mm recommended needle size but the larger size used in this pattern helps with the saggy effect.
In the pattern I state that the yarn is discontinued but thats an error, the BWM has a ton of alpaca in all sorts of shades!
I am not precise on the yardage of this project but I did make 3 hats from 2 x 200g balls of this yarn.
The hat can be knit on dpns or circular needle - but be aware that if you use circs, you will need dpns later on when decreasing for the crown and there are not many stitches left.
Its very simple construction, just horizontal ribs to so that it will always sag whichever way you want it.
