this lovely, very comfortable, unusual shrug is very straightforward to make as its all in stocking stitch in one main piece. .
NB if you downloaded the pattern before 18 May 2010 please note the smaller needle size used is 3.25mm not 2.75mm as per the typo in the pattern!
The back and sleeves are knitted as one piece with a ruffle either end. Then sew up the sleeve bit and work the main ruffle on a circular needle.
The beauty in this piece is short row shaping so that the ruffle is smaller at the fronts of the elbow and back of the neck, gradually getting deeper down the sides and back of the garment to give the lovely waterfall effect at the sides. The sleeve ruffle is also slightly longer at the back of the elbow.
By the end of the increase stitches for the main ruffle you have a LOT of stitches on your needle… a good tv watching project!
