With this supplemental pattern you’ll be able to customize our Classic Bunny or Classic Teddy Bear with a patch of colour over the eye in the head section. We think, and we hope you agree, that adding a patch of contrasting colour over one eye and ear makes these bears and bunnies particularly adorable. Leave this as the only colour, or match the patch to your friend’s paws, either way, this pattern offers one more option to help make your bear or bunny uniquely yours.

This is a supplemental head pattern for our Knitted Classic Teddy Bear or Knitted Classic Bunny Pattern. You must buy the basic Classic Bunny or Classic Teddy Bear pattern as well, as this pattern is just a variation given for the head section of these patterns.

For this supplemental pattern, you will need your base yarn and then a small amount of 4 different yarns for the cupcake. Yarn “A” is the yarn you are using for most of the bunny or bear. The cupcake is knit with red “R”, pink “P” and brown “B” and white “W”. (Feel free to substitute any colours you like for these four colours.)
The beauty of knitting stuffed friends is that this pattern can be knit in any size yarn with accompanying needles. Generally we find using a size or two smaller needles than required by the yarn allows for the tightness needed when you’re stuffing your finished product. We suggest knitting a small test swatch and then stretching the swatch to see how tight or loose the stitches are. Remember, anywhere light shines through, is where stuffing can show through when you stuff – choose your needles appropriately. The size of the yarn will affect the size of your finished product – so use smaller, finer yarn for smaller bunnies or bears and bigger, chunkier yarn for larger bunnies or bears.

If you’re new to knitting stuffed friends, or are uncomfortable winging it without strict guidelines (that’s OK, sometimes we all need good directions to help us out) you will need approximately 85m of Medium weight yarn. You will need approximately 2-5m of each of the yarns used in the cupcake. With this yarn, use 4mm (US size 6) needles. You will also need a small amount of yarn for embroidering the face, stuffing (we use ecofil or wool) and a tapestry needle to sew your bunny or bear together. This will let you create a bunny or bear that’s approximately 19cm (7.5 inches) in length.
