I had this hat I bought years ago. Although it was made out of cheap acrylic yarn it always has been my favorite.
Even after I started knitting and had made so many hats myself (and out of much nobler material) I always fell back to this store- bought, ratty, old hat because I just loved it’s fit and style.
But after all this time and wear it finally gave up this winter and I just had to make one exactly like it, to replace my all time favorite hat!
With the help of the gorgeous Cocoon yarn from Rowan I made the impossible possible! I made an even better hat than my old one was since now I don’t only love it’s fit and style but also the softness and warmth of a fine merino & mohair blend!
I thought that I might share this pattern with you….
…you might be in need of a favorite hat replacement, too!
The pattern is written in one size only, but since the fit is quite slouchy and the whole thing is made out of single rib or broken rib stitch it should accommodate different heads easily!
The hat has been knitted up in 5 different colours of Rowan Cocoon:
natural: 1 skein or 34,5gr of Cocoon by Rowan (colourway 806 Frost) or approximately 40 meters or 44 yards
purple: 1 skein or 32gr of Cocoon by Rowan (colourway 811 Lavender ice) or approximately 37,5 meters or 41 yards
light brown: 1 skein or 16gr of Cocoon by Rowan (colourway 808 Tundra) or approximately 19 meters or 21 yards
dark brown: 1 skein or 7gr of Cocoon by Rowan (colourway 809 Crag) or approximately 8 meters or 9 yards
blue: 1 skein or 3gr of Cocoon by Rowan (colourway 827 Misty blue) or approximately 3,6 meters or 4 yards
If you’d like to make a hat in one colour only, you’ll need 93gr of wool so that 1 skein of Rowan Cocoon would be enough.
