This pattern is available for free.

Info: I have changed my free patterns to online-viewing recently, because they were sadly pirated and offered on dubious websites - so there is no possibility to download it as usual.I

If you need to have the pattern in printed form, you might find a workaround by either copy-paste the text into a Word or Text Edit file or save each page in the form of screenshots off the full size view. There might be a lot of other workarounds using another 3rd party application, which I am unaware of.
I am sorry that I had to withdraw the PDF file as a downloadable pattern.
This was the only solution I could think off, which would still offer the patterns for free.
:)

Another variation has been added to the existing pattern (as of January 2014): It has a tubular cast on and much more pronounced decreases - a kind of a pointy/hipster version of the original Cocoon hat.

Two sizes available for both versions.

So…. I had this hat I bought years ago. Although it was made out of cheap acrylic yarn it always has been my favorite.
Even after I started knitting and had made so many hats myself (and out of much nobler material) I always fell back to this store- bought, ratty, old hat because I just loved it’s fit and style.
But after all this time and wear it finally gave up this winter and I just had to make one exactly like it, to replace my all time favorite hat!

With the help of the gorgeous Cocoon yarn from Rowan I made the impossible possible! I made an even better hat than my old one was since now I don’t only love it’s fit and style but also the softness and warmth of a fine merino & mohair blend!
